On 29th Safar 11Hijri , Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) visited Baqee (grave in Medina) . On his return he felt severe pain in his head . The reactions were clearly visible from the cloth tied round the forehead too.This was the start of the illness that lead to our beloved Prophet's (Peace Be Upon Him) death. Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) lead the Namaz (Salaat - Prayers) in the mosque in this condition for 11 days . The illness remained for 13 to 14 days.
Day by Day Prophet Muhammed's (Peace Be Upon Him) health started deteriorating and during these days he(Prophet Muhammed Peace Be Upon Him) used to ask the wives (Umm - ul - mumineen) "Where will I stay today?" , When the wives (Umm - ul - mumineen) asked him to stay in wherever he wishes so , Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) decided to stay at Umm-ul-mumineen Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa Raziallahu-Ta'aala'Anha's house . When he was shifted to Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa Raziallahu-Ta'aala'Anha's house , Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) took support of Hazrat Ali (RA) and Hazrat Fazal Bin Abbas(RA) on both sides and with a cloth tied round the forehead he stretched himself and walked with legs dragging on the ground . Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) then stayed in Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa (RA) house during the last week of his life.
(May ALLAH bless Prophet Muhammed Peace Be Upon Him and us to follow the path of such a human being NO MOTHER HAS EVER GIVEN BIRTH TO , NOR WILL A WOMEN EVER GIVE BIRTH TO , TILL THE LAST DAY )
Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa (RA) used to recite the memorised Dua'a (Prayers) by the Prophet's(Peace Be Upon Him) bed .
Five days before on Wednesday the body started shivering more ,due to which the pain further increased .Also Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) started feeling dizzy when he said "Pour seven pots of water from different well's on me , so that I can go to different tribes and speak to them my will" . On implementing his orders , enough water was poured that Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said "Enough Enough". Then he felt a bit comfortable and went to the mosque (Masjid - an- Nabawi) .
With a cloth tied round his forehead , he sat on the mimber (place in the mosque from where Imam gives a sermon) . The Companions of Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) - Sahaaba's, started gathering in the mosque around the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) . Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said "Curse be on the Jews and the Christians , that they made the grave of their prophets a place of worship" (Bukhari 62/1) . And Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) also said "Do not convert my grave into an idol being worshipped". Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) then produced himself saying "If I had huntered anybody at his back , here I present my back for him to revenge . If I had disgraced anybody , here I present my grace for him to revenge".
Then Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) came down the mimber , lead the Zohar Namaz (Afternoon Prayers) and again climbed the mimber , and repeated what he said before. One man stood saying "O! Prophet(Peace Be Upon Him) you owe me Three Dirhams" . Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) asked Hazrat Fazal Bin Abbas (RA) to pay the due.
Then Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) spoke his will for the Ansar's (the people of Medina) . He said
"I speak my will to you for the Ansar's . Since they are my heart and lungs . They have fulfilled their responsibilities , but their rights remained due . Therefore accept their goods and neglect their bad ."
According to one narration Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said "Population (in the world ) will keep on increasing and that of Ansar's will keep on reducing . There will come a day when there will be few Ansar's left , like salt in the food . Therefore amongst you who would be responsible for profit and loss , accept their good and neglect their bad." (Bukhari 536/1)
After this Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said "There is one person who has been given the option . To select anything from the world he likes or accept whatever ALLAH has . The person selects the latter option of one , whatever ALLAH wishes" . Hazrat Abu Saeed Khidhri (RA) says "When the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said this , Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddik (RA) started crying and he said we sacrifice ourselves with our parents for you. Those who listened to him were surprised that Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) is talking of a person who has the option and Hazrat Abu Bakr is saying in this way. We could'nt understand . But after some days we realized that the person referenced was Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) himself and Hazrat Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable person amongst us."
Four days before on Thursday when the pain was at its height , Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said , let me write for you a plan after which you will never be mislead . There were many people in the house at that time . Hazrat Umar (RA) said that Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) is in pain , it would further deteriorate his illnes , and that Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) has explained to us the Qur'an which is enough for you all . This lead to two group , one in favour of Umar (RA) and the other wanting Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) to continue and it lead to arguments between the two groups . When the noise amongst the companions rose and there was lots of confrontation Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said "All of you get up from my side". (Bukhari 22/1,429,449,638/2)
On the same day Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) made three will's one of which was to Remove all the Jews , Christians and Mushriqeen's (Traitor's) from the Arab-Island.
Even though the illnes was painful , Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) lead all the prayers till this day Thursday . He lead the Magrib (After Sunset) prayer and recited Surah Mursallat(last Surah in Chapter 29) . Bukhari 637/2
But by night, at the time of night prayer (Isha) the pain increased so much that Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) asked , did the people offer the prayers . Hazrat Ayesha (Raziallahu Anha) said "No, but they are waiting for you" . Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) asked Ayesha (RA) to fill water for him to take bath . After the the bath Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) tried to stand , but the pain was so much that he could'nt and felt dizzy and partially unconscious. After some time Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) again asked the same question . Hazrat Ayesha (Raziallahu Anha) said "No, but they are waiting for you" . This happened for three or four times , when the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) finally called for Hazrat Abu bakr Siddiq (Raziallahu Anhu) and instructed him to lead the prayers ( the Isha Prayers ) . After which all the Namaz (Prayers) at the mosque were lead by Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) . It is mentioned in Mas'kawat - 102/1 that while the Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) was alive Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) lead Seventeen Prayers in the mosque .
